Sawsan is a co-founder and Trustee of the Asfari Foundation, which aims to help young people make a valuable contribution to society by empowering them through education, research and the power of free thinking. In addition to this work, Sawsan is the Executive Director of the Galilee Foundation, supporting the development of the Palestinian community in Israel through educational and cultural initiatives.

Sawsan is also a board member of the leading Palestinian development organisation, the Welfare Association, and is active in various charities across the Arab world. She is a partner in the production company Cactus World Films. Sawsan has a BA in political science and English literature, and a degree in journalism.
